About OCB files

The .OCB file extension is a dual-purpose format primarily associated with MSI Overclocking Profiles and Directory Opus Configuration Backups. While valuable for system tuners and power users, these files suffer from severe proprietary lock-in.

For MSI motherboard users, an OCB file is a binary snapshot of BIOS settings (voltages, fan curves, CPU multipliers). The main limitation is hardware dependency; an OCB file created on one specific MSI motherboard model often cannot be opened or loaded onto a different model, rendering the file useless for sharing configurations across different hardware. These binary blobs are not human-readable, preventing users from simply opening them in a text editor to view settings.

Conversely, Directory Opus OCB files are actually standard Compressed archives renamed with a custom extension. Users frequently struggle to access their backed-up toolbars and scripts because they lack the Directory Opus software on a new machine.
