About OCB files

The .OCB file extension is most commonly an MSI BIOS overclocking profile. Users export these files directly from the motherboard's UEFI/BIOS or via MSI Command Center to save custom voltage, CPU multiplier, and RAM timing settings. A secondary common use is as a configuration backup for Directory Opus, a popular Windows file manager. Under the hood, the Directory Opus version is simply a renamed ZIP archive containing XML layout data. In rare enterprise environments, it stores organizational charts for Epicor HCM or forensics data for Oxygen Forensics.

The main disadvantage of .OCB files is their strict proprietary lock-in. An MSI overclocking profile is strictly tied to the specific motherboard model and BIOS version that created it. Attempting to apply it to a different board or even an updated BIOS version will usually fail or cause system instability. Because they are not standard text files, you cannot easily open them to review your hardware settings on a phone or a non-MSI PC. Similarly, Epicor HCM and Oxygen Forensics backups require expensive enterprise licenses just to access the data.

To make the data accessible, extraction or conversion is required. For Directory Opus backups, converting the file to ZIP allows any standard archive tool to extract the configuration files. For MSI profiles, extracting the raw hex or text data to TXT or XML can help power users read their timings and voltages offline without needing to reboot into the BIOS.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OCB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted STL, DTB, EHI and OVPN files.

The OCB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OCB converter.
