About NWS files
The .NWS file extension primarily identifies a saved email or newsgroup message originally created by discontinued email clients like Microsoft Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Windows Live Mail. It contains the message text and metadata structured according to the Usenet/NNTP standard. Less commonly, .NWS files are legacy newsletter documents created with Microsoft Publisher or Adobe PageMaker. Today, .NWS files are highly impractical. Since the software that created them is obsolete, opening these files on modern systems requires setting up specific clients like Mozilla Thunderbird or Zimbra Desktop. They cannot be opened in modern web browsers or mobile devices natively, making sharing and viewing highly frustrating. To preserve the contents of a .NWS file, you need to convert it. For archiving and easy viewing on any device without installing obsolete software, convert .NWS to .PDF. If you need to import the message into a modern email client, convert it to the standard .EML format. For raw data extraction, convert to .TXT.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NWS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The NWS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NWS converter.
