To convert other file formats to the "Legacy Video Container" file type, you need software like Winamp or a similar tool.
About NSV files
The .NSV format is a legacy Nullsoft Streaming Video container developed by Nullsoft to deliver streaming video over the internet, functioning primarily on the SHOUTcast network.
You will need to convert .NSV files because the format is entirely obsolete. The proprietary container is not supported by modern web browsers, smartphones, or smart TVs. Furthermore, it typically wraps legacy video codecs like VP3 or VP5, which frequently cause hardware decoding failures today. Professional video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro cannot read .NSV files natively, meaning you cannot edit the footage without a pre-conversion step.
For maximum compatibility across all devices and web playback, convert your .NSV files to MP4. If you are archiving the footage and want to preserve the legacy streams without quality loss, convert to MKV. To extract only the broadcast audio, choose MP3 or AAC. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser.

The NSV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NSV converter.
