About EQF files

The .EQF file format generally serves two very distinct purposes. In most cases, it functions as an Equalizer Preset Library for the classic media player Winamp. These files store specific audio frequency adjustments to modify playback sound profiles. Alternatively, an .EQF file can be a Search Query Data file created by the Everything search utility by voidtools, saving user-defined search parameters.

The primary disadvantage of the .EQF format is its highly specific, proprietary nature. Winamp presets are not natively recognized by modern media players like VLC or Spotify, locking your custom audio settings into a legacy application. Similarly, voidtools search queries are useless outside of the specific Everything application environment. Opening these files directly in standard text editors often yields unreadable binary data or formatting artifacts.

Users often seek to convert Winamp .EQF files to TXT or XML to document their frequency values for manual entry into modern audio equalizers or digital audio workstations (DAWs). For Everything query files, users might want to extract the query strings as basic text lists.

Because .EQF is a closed, proprietary format heavily tied to its native software, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the data reliably. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our tool inspects the internal file signature and extracts embedded text or data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EQF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted Q1, SPC and CMF files.

The EQF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EQF converter.
