About EQF files
The .EQF extension serves two distinct, niche technical purposes, often leading to confusion.
Winamp Equalizer Preset: Historically, this format stores audio frequency settings for Winamp, the iconic media player originally developed by Nullsoft. These files contain specific decibel (dB) gain values for 10 frequency bands (e.g., 60Hz, 170Hz, 310Hz) and a preamp setting. The major friction for modern users is proprietary lock-in; popular streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music cannot import these files. Users recovering old music collections often need to convert .EQF to human-readable TXT or JSON to manually replicate their preferred "Rock" or "Techno" sound curves in modern equalizers.
Everything Search Query: In the context of the Everything utility by voidtools, an .EQF file saves a specific search configuration or query logic. These are essentially instruction sets for the software to filter files. A common user error is attempting to share this file expecting it to contain the results (the list of files found), whereas it only contains the search criteria. To share the results, one should export to EFU (Everything File List) or CSV.
For both types, direct conversion to standard formats is difficult without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EQF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EQF file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Winamp or similar software from the "Equalizer Preset Library" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to EQF, try Winamp or another comparable tool in the "Equalizer Preset Library" category.
The EQF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EQF converter.
