Convert NRV to another file type
To convert your NRV file to another format, you need Nero Video or other Video software.
Convert a file to NRV
To convert other file formats to the "Disc Authoring Project" file type, you need software like Nero Video or a similar tool.
About NRV files
A .NRV file is a proprietary project file created by Nero Video or the legacy NeroVision Express software. It is strictly a "recipe" file used to author Video CDs (VCDs), Super Video CDs (SVCDs), or DVD slideshows.
The Problem: It's Not a Video
Users often mistake .NRV files for playable video (like MP4 or AVI), but they cannot be opened in standard media players like VLC Media Player or uploaded to YouTube. The file is typically small (under 1MB) because it contains only metadata: timeline settings, menu structures, and file paths pointing to the actual video and audio clips stored elsewhere on your computer. If you move an .NRV file to a new computer without the original source media, the project will break.
The Solution: Exporting to Common Formats
To convert an .NRV file, you must have the original Nero software installed and the source media assets available.
For Digital Playback: Open the project in Nero Video, select "Export," and choose MPEG-4 (H.264) or AVI. This creates a standalone video file playable on smartphones and PCs.
For Archiving: If you want to preserve the DVD menu structure, export the project as a Disk Image (.ISO). This allows you to "mount" the virtual disk later without burning a physical CD.
For Editing: Exporting to a high-quality MOV or uncompressed AVI is recommended if you plan to edit the footage in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NRV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NRV file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use Nero Video or similar software from the "Video CD Project Compilation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to NRV, try Nero Video or another comparable tool in the "Video CD Project Compilation" category.
The NRV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NRV converter.
