About NQC files

The .NQC file contains source code written in Not Quite C, a programming language developed by Dave Baum for the original LEGO Mindstorms RCX programmable brick. These files store C-like syntax instructions that control the robot's motors, sensors, and logic. You can write and compile them using the Bricx Command Center.

The main disadvantage of .NQC files is their severe obsolescence. They are designed for robotics hardware released in 1998. Modern code editors do not recognize the extension, making syntax highlighting unavailable by default. Furthermore, they require specific, outdated compiler software to build the executable byte code for the hardware.

Users typically need to convert .NQC files to standard text formats like TXT, C, or CPP to read the logic in modern IDEs like Visual Studio Code. You can also convert them to PDF for documentation, sharing, or printing.

Standard online converters fail to process .NQC because it is a highly niche, deprecated format. It requires the original compiler to turn the code into executable RCX firmware.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NQC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XPB, QX and LMV files.

The NQC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NQC converter.
