About XPB files

The .xpb file is a proprietary project file created by PhotoParade Maker, a legacy application developed by Callisto Corporation (often bundled with Adobe PhotoDeluxe) for designing interactive photo slideshows and screen savers. Unlike a standard video file (like MP4), an .xpb file functions as a container or "recipe" that references your digital photos, chosen themes, background music, and transition settings.

Common Friction Points: Users frequently encounter .xpb files when recovering old family archives but discover they cannot open them. Because this is a proprietary format from the Windows XP/Vista era, modern media players like VLC Media Player and web browsers cannot play them. The file requires the original PhotoParade Maker software to interpret the data. Additionally, since it is a project file, if the original source photos were moved or deleted from the computer, the .xpb file may fail to load the images even if you have the software.
