To convert other file formats to the "Desktop Publishing Document" file type, you need software like QuarkXPress or a similar tool.

About QX files

A .QX file is primarily a QuarkXPress Project file, created by QuarkXPress, an enterprise desktop publishing application used to create complex page layouts for magazines, books, and flyers. Alternatively, it can be a quiz or assessment file generated by Question Writer or QuizXpress, utilizing the Microsoft Compound internal file structure.

The main disadvantage of the .QX format is its highly proprietary nature. Opening these files natively requires expensive commercial software licenses. The files are often large, unsupported by standard web browsers, and impossible to read using basic text editors. Users who receive a .QX file without owning the native software face immediate workflow blocks.

To share these documents effectively, you should convert them to a universal format like PDF for reading, or DOCX for text editing. However, converting a .QX file is notoriously difficult. Because it is a closed format, standard online converters usually fail to process the complex page geometries and proprietary data structures. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the layout.

Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view its metadata, and convert it when possible. While full layout recreation might require native software, our engine can inspect the binary of the .QX file to extract raw text or embedded media. If our analysis detects the supported Microsoft Compound structure used in quiz variants, deeper viewing or conversion options may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted QXP, QXM, LMV and XPB files.
