About QX files

The .QX file extension is a bit of a chameleon, most commonly associated with desktop publishing projects created in QuarkXPress, though it also frequently appears as an assessment file for Question Writer or QuizXpress.

If you are dealing with the desktop publishing variant, you likely have a complex layout containing text, high-resolution images, and spot colors intended for print. The primary difficulty here is the proprietary lock-in: opening a .QX file requires a licensed copy of QuarkXPress, which is expensive software for a casual user just needing to view a brochure. Furthermore, version compatibility can be a headache - older software often cannot open files saved in newer versions.

Alternatively, if the file is a quiz, it is likely a Microsoft Compound file used to store questions, scoring logic, and multimedia assets. These files are functionally useless outside their specific testing environments.

For most users, the pragmatic solution is converting these proprietary formats into universal standards. For QuarkXPress files, converting to PDF preserves the layout for proofing and printing without requiring the original fonts or assets linked on the designer's machine. For Question Writer files, converting to HTML5 or PDF allows you to extract the question data for archiving or web publishing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted QXP, QXM, LMV and XPB files.
