About NPL files
The .NPL extension is primarily associated with Nokia Playlist files, a legacy format generated by the now-discontinued Nokia PC Suite. These files function similarly to standard playlists, storing an ordered list of audio tracks and their file paths to organize music collections on older Nokia mobile devices (like the N-series).
However, users often have trouble when trying to move their music library to modern smartphones or desktop players. Because .NPL is a proprietary, text-based container designed specifically for the Nokia file system, popular media players like VLC media player or iTunes typically fail to recognize or parse the track paths correctly. To salvage these playlists, users should convert them to the universally supported M3U or M3U8 formats.
Note on duplicates: This extension is also used for Natural Programming Language source files and Allplan CAD plot layouts. If your file is not a music playlist, it is likely a script or technical drawing. For code, converting to TXT or PDF allows for easy viewing; for CAD layouts, converting to PDF is the standard for sharing without requiring a license.

The NPL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NPL converter.
