About NIM files
The .NIM extension creates immediate confusion because it serves two completely different technical communities. Most commonly in software development, it represents source code written in the Nim programming language, a statically typed language that compiles to C, CPP, or JS. While these are plain text files, opening them without a proper IDE like Visual Studio Code or Notepad++ results in lost syntax highlighting and formatting structure. They are useless to the average user without the Nim Compiler installed to build them into an executable.
However, in the gaming world, .NIM files are critical data mappings for the survival horror game 7 Days to Die. Specifically, these files (like block.nim or item.nim) map internal item names to numerical IDs. Unlike the source code variant, these game files are often generated binary or structured data that cannot be simply edited in a text editor without risking save file corruption or server synchronization errors. Users frequently encounter these when managing dedicated servers or attempting to mod the game, only to find their text editor displays gibberish.
Conversion Strategies:
For Source Code: Convert .NIM to PDF for documentation and archiving, or to HTML to share code snippets on the web with preserved formatting. To run the program, it must be compiled (converted) to EXE or C.
For Game Data: Convert to TXT or JSON (if supported) to inspect the ID mappings safely without altering the original binary structure. This helps server admins debug 'Block ID Mismatch' errors.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NIM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NIM file to JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO, RS or SWIFT, you can use Nim Compiler or similar software from the "Source Code & Game Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to NIM, try Nim Compiler or another comparable tool in the "Source Code & Game Data" category.
The NIM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NIM converter.
