Convert NGD to another file type
To convert NGD netlist files to another format, you need Xilinx ISE or other Developer software.
Convert a file to NGD
To convert other file formats to the "Electronic Design Automation" file type, you need software like Xilinx ISE or a similar tool.
About NGD files
The .NGD file is a Xilinx Native Generic Database file. Hardware engineers use it during the design of FPGAs and CPLDs. It contains a logical netlist reduced to Xilinx-specific design primitives. To open or natively process this file, you must use the Xilinx ISE design suite, now maintained by AMD. The .NGD format has significant disadvantages for sharing, archiving, or auditing. It is a strictly proprietary, uncompressed binary format. It requires a massive installation of highly specialized, largely legacy software to open. You cannot read it in a standard code editor. Furthermore, it locks your hardware design to specific silicon architectures, making cross-vendor migration severely difficult. To restore usability, engineers must convert .NGD files into standard simulation formats like VHD (VHDL), V (Verilog), or EDN (EDIF). This conversion process restores human-readable syntax and allows third-party simulation tools to test the logic, although specific timing or physical layout data is lost. Because this is a closed, proprietary binary format, standard online converters fail to process it entirely. Only the original software toolchain can properly read or export the complex hardware data. We can still identify the file format, inspect the file deeply, and extract readable text or internal metadata strings. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded structure, partial viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NGD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NGD file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use Xilinx ISE or similar software from the "FPGA Design Netlist Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to NGD, try Xilinx ISE or another comparable tool in the "FPGA Design Netlist Storage" category.
The NGD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NGD converter.
