About NFB files

The .NFB file is primarily a legacy Nokia Phone Backup file. It stores a complete backup of old Nokia mobile phones, containing user data like contacts, SMS messages, calendar entries, and device settings. A secondary use for the .NFB extension is a CAD reinforcement schedule data file used by Nemetschek Allplan, which structures its data using standard GZIP compression. To open mobile backups natively, users traditionally relied on the discontinued Nokia PC Suite. For structural engineering files, Allplan is required. It requires outdated software that frequently fails on modern operating systems like Windows 11. Trying to recover a decade-old contact list or sentimental text messages is incredibly frustrating because standard tools cannot read the closed binary structure. The best target formats for extraction are standard VCF (vCard) files for contacts, CSV files for messages, and standard image formats for recovered photos. Be aware that proprietary Nokia ringtones and specific device settings cannot be converted and will be lost. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary format. Often, only the original software or specialized third-party extractors can properly read or export the data.
