About NFB files

The .nfb file extension is primarily associated with the Nokia Phone Backup format, a legacy archive type created by the Content Copier utility within the now-discontinued Nokia PC Suite. These files were the standard method for backing up Symbian and Series 40 (S40) devices in the mid-2000s, encapsulating contacts, SMS text messages, calendar entries, and media files into a single proprietary container.

For most users, the challenge with .nfb files is accessibility; modern smartphones (Android/iOS) cannot natively read them, and the original Nokia software is difficult to run on Windows 10 or 11. Consequently, users often find themselves with a "black box" of digital memories - old photos or phone numbers - that they cannot open. The practical solution is not a direct "conversion" in the traditional sense, but an extraction process. Tools like NbuExplorer (a third-party parser) can open these containers and export the internal data to usable formats: contacts to VCF (vCard), messages to CSV, and images to JPG.

In a completely different context, .nfb files may occasionally be CAD reinforcement schedule data files used by Nemetschek Allplan. According to technical analysis, these CAD-related files are often just GZIP compressed archives. If you suspect your file is from Allplan, simply renaming the extension to gz and extracting it with 7-Zip may reveal the raw schedule data inside.
