Working with .NETCDF files is notoriously difficult for general users. The format is completely unreadable in standard text editors and unsupported by web browsers. Because it stores complex multidimensional data (such as temperature measured across longitude, latitude, and time dimensions), extracting useful information requires dedicated scientific libraries. Files frequently exceed several gigabytes in size, creating massive bottlenecks for basic sharing or quick data analysis.
Users typically need to convert .NETCDF to flat formats like CSV for spreadsheet analysis, or .GeoTIFF for mapping in basic GIS tools. However, converting to CSV forces you to flatten 3D or 4D grids into 2D tables, which can result in massive data loss or exponentially bloated file sizes if you try to export the entire array.
