Convert NED to another file type

To convert NED files to another format, you need OMNeT++ or other Developer software.

Convert a file to NED

To convert other file formats to the "Network Simulation Framework" file type, you need software like OMNeT++ or a similar tool.

About NED files

A .ned file typically serves as a Network Description file for OMNeT++, a widely used modular simulation library and framework. These files define network topologies, including modules, channels, and parameters using a specific, plain-text NED language. Alternatively, the extension is used for database model diagram files created by Navicat, or as UTF-16 (LE) encoded spectrophotometer data output from Thermo Fisher NanoDrop instruments.

Users often have trouble with .ned files because they are tied to specialized or highly commercialized software ecosystems. Navicat database diagrams, for example, lock users into a costly ecosystem; sharing a visual schema requires the recipient to have a Navicat Premium license unless the file is exported to a standard image. NanoDrop files silo scientific data, complicating raw data extraction. Even OMNeT++ topologies, while plain text, rely on strict syntax that confuses standard text parsers. Converting Navicat .ned files to PDF or PNG is highly requested for sharing schemas. For simulation and scientific data, extraction to CSV, XML, or TXT is standard practice.

Because of these overlapping, highly specific, and proprietary uses, standard online converters usually fail to process the file correctly. The software-specific encoding makes it a difficult format to open natively without the original tool.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NED file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TML, VALUES, CONF and ENU files.

FAQ

If you want to convert NED file to ENU, JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO or RS, you can use OMNeT++ or similar software from the "Network Simulation Topology" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to NED, try OMNeT++ or another comparable tool in the "Network Simulation Topology" category.

The NED Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NED converter.
