About NCH files

The .nch extension creates significant confusion because it serves two mutually exclusive, technical purposes.

1. ACH Transaction Data (Financial):
In the majority of modern use cases (approx. 66%), an .nch file is a raw ACH (Automated Clearing House) data file formatted to the NACHA standard. These files are typically generated by accounting platforms like QuickBooks or banking portals to execute batch direct deposits and payments.

2. Outlook Express Folder Index (Legacy Email):
Historically, .nch files were used by Outlook Express (specifically versions 4.0 and 5.0) as index files to store the directory structure of your mailboxes.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NCH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NLCH, EPUB, ZIP, SKF, BU and SEC files.

The NCH Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NCH converter.
