About NBP files

The .NBP file extension primarily identifies a Mathematica Player Notebook, a specialized interactive document format created by Wolfram Research. Unlike the standard editable NB notebooks, .NBP files are often saved as "published" or "secure" versions intended for viewing and interaction using the free Wolfram Player. These files contain rich technical data, including executable code, dynamic graphics, interactive sliders, and mathematical typesetting.

Users typically encounter friction when trying to open .NBP files without the paid Mathematica software installed. While the free Player allows viewing and basic interaction (like moving a slider), it prevents saving changes or exporting data, creating a "read-only" trap. Furthermore, because the format is proprietary to the Wolfram ecosystem, standard office suites and text editors cannot render the complex mathematical notation or execute the embedded code. A secondary, less common use of the .NBP extension is for NeoBook Plugins, which are binary libraries used to extend the functionality of the legacy NeoBook authoring tool; these cannot be "opened" or converted into documents.

For archiving or sharing with non-technical users, the best conversion target is PDF (Portable Document Format), which preserves the visual layout of equations and graphs but sacrifices interactivity. For web publishing, converting to HTML is ideal. To regain full editing capabilities, the file must be opened in Mathematica and saved back to the standard NB format.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NBP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CDF, MX and NB files.

FAQ

If you want to convert NBP file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Wolfram Player or similar software from the "Interactive Mathematical Notebook" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to NBP, try Wolfram Player or another comparable tool in the "Interactive Mathematical Notebook" category.

The NBP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NBP converter.
