About NBI files
A .nbi file primarily serves as a backup job information file created by Nero BackItUp or NovaBACKUP. Less commonly, it acts as a Native Bundle Index for the NetBeans IDE or a game data index for Need for Speed: The Run. These files are typically opened with their native backup suites, but since the Nero variant relies on a standard XML structure, text editors like Notepad++ can also open them. The primary disadvantage of the .nbi format is that it is strictly a structural log. It does not contain your actual photos, videos, or documents - only the metadata, job settings, and file paths required by the software to restore an archive. If the main backup archive is missing, the .nbi file is virtually useless. Users often want to convert .nbi files to standard XML or TXT formats to make the backup history readable without needing to install or purchase proprietary backup software. Converting to visual formats like PDF is not natively supported by standard tools and usually results in a raw text dump. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary metadata index, meaning only the original software can properly read or export the data logic.
