Convert a file to NBA

To convert other file formats to the "Compressed Backup Archive" file type, you need software like Nero BackItUp or a similar tool.

About NBA files

The .NBA file is a proprietary backup archive created by Nero BackItUp. It stores compressed copies of documents, photos, and system files for data recovery purposes.

The primary software used to open and restore these files is Nero BackItUp, developed by Nero AG.

The main disadvantage of the .NBA format is its dependency on a closed software ecosystem. It is proprietary. If you lose access to your Nero software license or migrate to a new operating system, you cannot natively view your archived files. The files can also easily exceed gigabytes in size, making them difficult to handle without dedicated tools.

The best workaround is to extract the contents to standard archive formats like ZIP or 7Z. Since .NBA is internally structured as a standard ZIP container, extracting it yields your original uncompressed files. You may lose Nero-specific metadata or backup indexing, but the core documents remain intact.

Backup files are notoriously difficult to open or convert because they often use proprietary file splitting, encryption, or custom indexing. Often, only the original software can reliably read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can inspect the internal file structure. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible directly in your web browser.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NBA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
