To convert other file formats to the "Tracker Music Module" file type, you need software like OpenMPT or a similar tool.
About MTM files
The .MTM file is primarily a MultiTracker Music Module, a legacy audio format created for the MS-DOS MultiTracker software in the early 1990s. These files store sequence data (musical notes, tempos, and effects) alongside embedded raw audio samples (instruments) to produce multitrack digital music. A very rare secondary use for this extension is the Macrofocus TreeMap file, which stores hierarchical data visualization setups.
The main disadvantage of the .MTM audio format is its extreme obsolescence. It is a proprietary, discontinued format that is completely unsupported by modern web browsers, mobile devices, and standard media players. Attempting to open these files typically requires installing specialized retro audio players or tracker emulators like OpenMPT or VLC media player. Furthermore, modern Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Ableton Live cannot import the raw pattern data.
Users need to convert .MTM files to make the music playable on modern hardware, shareable online, or usable in contemporary multimedia projects. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing obsolete software.
For universal playback on mobile and the web, convert to MP3. For archiving the original uncompressed sample quality or editing in a modern DAW, convert to a lossless WAV or FLAC file. Keep in mind that converting a tracker module to a standard waveform format flattens the file; you will lose the distinct instrument tracks and mathematical sequence data, leaving only the final mixed audio.
