About MRP files

The .MRP extension is a classic example of a "filename collision," where multiple unrelated software ecosystems use the same three letters. Determining the correct workflow depends entirely on the file's origin.

1. Korg Music Workstations (Most Common):
Often generated by Korg hardware like the M3 Workstation or Electribe 2 Sampler. These are proprietary binary data files containing synthesizer programs, combinations, and drum patterns. They are tightly coupled to the hardware's firmware, making them effectively "read-only" on a PC without the specific Korg Editor software or the physical instrument. Users typically want to convert these to SYX (System Exclusive) or standard audio (WAV/MP3) for wider use, but direct conversion is difficult without the hardware acting as the bridge.

2. MediaTek / Mythroad Applications:
In the mobile sector, .MRP files are executable packages for the Mythroad (Sky-mobi) or MediaTek Runtime Environment (MRE). These were standard on millions of "feature phones" (non-smartphones) for distributing lightweight games and apps. They function similarly to JAR (Java) files but are incompatible with modern Android or iOS devices. Users often look to convert these to APK or run them via an MRP Emulator on PC, though compatibility is spotty.

3. Wondershare Mockitt & RationalPlan:
In professional environments, an .MRP file might be a compressed project file for Wondershare Mockitt, a UI/UX prototyping tool. These are often ZIP-based containers holding assets and JSON data. Similarly, RationalPlan uses .MRP for project management data, which is technically an XML file. For these formats, users usually want to export the project to PDF, PNG, or Excel (.XLSX) to share plans with stakeholders who lack the proprietary software.

Recommendation:
Before attempting conversion, try opening the file in a text editor (like Notepad++) or renaming the extension to ZIP or JPG. If the header starts with PK, it is a zipped archive (Mockitt). If it contains readable tags, it is likely XML (RationalPlan). If it is binary gibberish, it is likely Korg or MediaTek data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MRP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MRP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MRP converter.
