About MKZ files

The .MKZ file extension is a fragmented format used by three completely different systems. Most commonly, it is a game controller macro script for hardware like the Collective Minds Cronus Zen or Bloody gaming mice. These files store automated input sequences. Additionally, it functions as an offline dictionary database for the Albanian Explanatory Dictionary (Fjalor Shqip) or StarDict. Finally, it is also used as a zipped geographic data file by Google Earth. The primary disadvantage of the .MKZ format is its ambiguity. Because the same extension is shared by hardware macros, language dictionaries, and maps, your operating system will often fail to open it. Standard online converters also fail because they blindly rely on the file extension. Hardware macros are typically proprietary, locked to specific controller software, and require a physical device to edit. This makes direct conversion to standard text difficult. Your best conversion target depends on the file's true internal format. Geographic .MKZ files are actually standard ZIP archives. You can often rename them to extract KML map data. Game macros cannot usually be converted but may contain readable plain text. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our tool inspects the file header, allowing you to bypass extension confusion and safely extract embedded data from this closed, proprietary format.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MKZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SQLITE, FMP12 and ADB files.

The MKZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MKZ converter.
