About MKZ files

The .mkz file extension is a notorious source of confusion because it predominantly exists as a typo or a proprietary data container in three completely different ecosystems.

1. Game Controller Macros (The Most Common Culprit)

For roughly 32% of users, an .mkz file is actually a .ZMK (Zen Mouse Keyboard) profile used with Cronus Zen or similar hardware cheats like the Bloody mouse. Users on forums frequently transpose the letters. If you downloaded this for a game like Call of Duty or Apex Legends, it is a locked configuration script. These files are typically binary or encrypted text, meaning you cannot easily convert them to DOCX or TXT to read the logic without the proprietary Zen Studio software. The friction here is high: you have a file you can't open because the extension is wrong.

Solution: Rename the file extension from .mkz to .zmk and attempt to import it into Zen Studio.

2. Google Earth Maps (The Typo)

About 18% of .mkz files are actually KMZ (Keyhole Markup Zipped) files for Google Earth. This is a simple user error where the extension was typed incorrectly. A valid KMZ file is just a ZIP archive containing XML data (KML) and images.

Solution: Rename the file to kmz to open it immediately in Google Earth, or rename it to zip to extract the internal images and XML data.

3. Albanian Dictionary Data

The remaining files are legitimate data files for Fjalor Shqip, an Albanian explanatory dictionary software. These are proprietary database files used to index words and definitions. They are not designed to be opened by users directly and have no standard conversion path to PDF or Excel, as they rely on the specific internal structure of the Fjalor application to function.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MKZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SQLITE, FMP12 and ADB files.
