About MEO files

The .meo file format is a secure, encrypted archive designed to protect sensitive data and folders. Created to safely send files over email or store them on shared drives, it uses strong cryptographic algorithms like Blowfish or DES. These files are exclusively managed by MEO Encryption Software, a desktop utility developed by NCH Software. There is no broad ecosystem of third-party applications that natively support this standard. Users frequently need to convert .meo files because the format is highly restrictive. The main disadvantage is its proprietary nature; you cannot open a .meo file natively on Windows, macOS, or mobile devices without installing the specific desktop application. Furthermore, without the exact password, the data is permanently locked. Standard archive extractors like 7-Zip or WinRAR will completely fail to read the contents. For improved accessibility, the best target formats are standard .ZIP or .7Z archives.
