About MEA files

The .MEA file extension is almost universally associated with exported measurement data from specialized scientific, engineering, and quality control equipment. The most common source is particle size analysis using the Malvern Mastersizer 2000 or Zetasizer instruments. It is also generated by spectroradiometers like the Minolta CA-310 Chroma Meter, Bentley STAAD.Pro for structural analysis, and Metrolog X4 for 3D metrology inspection.

The core problem with .MEA files is their restrictive, proprietary nature. Because they are generated by expensive, highly specific hardware, they lock you into a software ecosystem. You often need the exact companion software - which usually requires expensive licensing or a hardware dongle - just to view the results. Many of these formats, such as the Malvern Zetasizer files, use a complex, proprietary Microsoft Compound binary container. They are completely unreadable in standard text editors. This makes it incredibly difficult to share critical lab results, quality control reports, or climate data with stakeholders who do not own the specific instrument.

To make this data accessible and useful, you need to extract or convert it. For raw data analysis and charting, convert the .MEA file to CSV or TXT, which allows you to seamlessly plot the results in Microsoft Excel, Python, or MATLAB. For sharing static, unalterable reports with clients, or for long-term archiving, convert the file to PDF or .PDF/A.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MEA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TST, EXM and XTX files.

The MEA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MEA converter.
