About MDN files
The .MDN file extension primarily represents a Message Disposition Notification, a critical component of the AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) EDI protocol. These files function as digital return receipts, confirming that a secure message was successfully received and decrypted by the recipient. While essential for B2B non-repudiation, raw .MDN files are typically formatted as multipart MIME messages containing complex headers and machine-readable statuses, making them difficult for humans to interpret without specialized EDI software like Cleo Harmony or Mendelson AS2. Users often need to convert these receipts into human-readable formats like PDF or TXT to archive proof of delivery or troubleshoot failed transmissions without navigating proprietary logging systems. A secondary, legacy use case involves Microsoft Access (versions 97-2003), where .MDN files served as blank database templates or wizard add-ins. These proprietary binaries are completely incompatible with modern text editors and require conversion to MDB or ACCDB via a legacy installation of Microsoft Access to retrieve any stored schema or data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MDN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MDN file to DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB, MYD, FRM or SQL, you can use Cleo Harmony or similar software from the "AS2 Receipt Log" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to MDN, try Cleo Harmony or another comparable tool in the "AS2 Receipt Log" category.
The MDN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MDN converter.
