Extract text from MaxCut projects (MC3)

A .mc3 file most commonly functions as a cutting optimization project file created by MaxCut Software. Woodworkers and manufacturers use it to calculate material layouts and minimize waste. Alternatively, it serves as a military message draft for the DND/CAF Message Centre 3, an MPLAB Code Configurator file by Microchip Technology, or an Autodesk analytics configuration file.
The biggest disadvantage of the .mc3 format is its fragmented and highly proprietary nature. Because multiple, completely unrelated programs use the exact same extension, operating systems frequently fail to open them correctly. Furthermore, sharing a MaxCut project with a client who lacks the software is impossible, as these files require the native application to render the visual cutting lists and material diagrams.
Fortunately, the MaxCut and Autodesk versions of .mc3 files are based on a standard XML structure. This means you can convert or extract the data to XML, TXT, or CSV to read the raw material dimensions and configuration parameters. However, all visual diagrams and specific toolpath instructions will be lost outside the native software. Military and MPLAB files face similar restrictions, often requiring their specific environments to be decoded safely.
