MAIN files typically serve two completely different purposes: they are either proprietary Encrypted Game Data archives for titles like Mindscape Creation and the Overdose PS2 game, or they are CNC Machine Program Files used by Fanuc machinery.
When used in gaming, these files act as massive, closed containers holding proprietary 3D models, audio, and compiled code. The major disadvantage here is that the format is heavily encrypted to prevent tampering. You cannot natively browse the contents, requiring specific legacy emulators or reverse-engineered modding tools. On the other hand, Fanuc CNC systems use the .MAIN extension to store machining toolpaths. Surprisingly, these industrial files are simply structured in XML, making them much easier to handle.
Because standard online converters lack the decryption keys for legacy PS2 games, they will instantly fail to process gaming .MAIN files.
