About LS files

The .LS file extension primarily identifies an ASCII-based robot program file used by FANUC robotics controllers. These files contain human-readable KAREL or TPE code instructions for industrial automation tasks. While .LS files are excellent for offline programming and debugging in text editors or simulation software like RoboDK and FANUC ROBOGUIDE, they present a significant deployment challenge: most standard FANUC controllers cannot execute .LS files directly. They require the file to be compiled into a binary TP (Teach Pendant) format, or the controller must have the specific "ASCII Upload" software option installed, which is often an expensive add-on.

A secondary but notable use of the extension is for LightWave 3D LScript source code files, used to automate tasks within NewTek LightWave.
