The .LP2 file is a proprietary multilingual word processor document originally created by the LEAP Office or iLEAP software, developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). It is heavily used in India for drafting regional language documents, rendering complex scripts like Devanagari, Tamil, and Marathi.
The massive disadvantage of the .LP2 format is that it is a severely outdated, proprietary file type. It relies on legacy encoding standards (like ISCII) and custom font mapping (ISFOC) that predate global Unicode adoption. Because of this, .LP2 files are generally unsupported by modern web browsers, operating systems, and standard word processors. Attempting to open these files in Microsoft Word usually results in unreadable gibberish instead of the original script.
