About LMX files

The .lmx extension represents a legacy Nokia Landmark Exchange file, a format once ubiquitous on Symbian S60 smartphones (like the Nokia N95 or E71) for saving "Landmarks" (GPS waypoints/POIs). These files use structured XML to store location data, including latitude, longitude, and place names.

The Problem: While the file contains valuable saved locations, it is functionally obsolete. Modern navigation apps (like Google Maps or Waze) and devices (Garmin, iPhone) do not natively support .lmx. Users often find their archived travel data or saved addresses "trapped" in this format, unreadable by current software. Because it is an XML text file, you can open it in a text editor to see the raw data, but you cannot easily import it into a map.

The Solution: For navigation use, the standard workflow is converting .lmx to GPX (GPS Exchange Format) or KML (Keyhole Markup Language). Tools like GPSBabel can parse the Nokia XML structure and translate it into a modern format usable by Google Earth or fitness trackers.

Secondary Use (CRM): In a business context, an .lmx file may be a GoldMine Local Memo file. These are proprietary text containers used by GoldMine CRM to store notes and memo fields linked to a dBase contact database. Unlike the Nokia format, these are not meant for standalone conversion and typically require the original CRM software to view.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LMX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LLMX, XML, PDF, TOR, RAG and RBXL files.

The LMX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LMX converter.
