To convert other file formats to the "PLC Programming File" file type, you need software like LOGO! Soft Comfort or a similar tool.
The .LLD extension is primarily associated with Ladder Logic Diagrams created by Siemens LOGO! Soft Comfort. These files contain the graphical programming logic used to automate Siemens LOGO! logic modules, commonly found in industrial lighting, HVAC, and manufacturing control systems. Because .LLD files are proprietary project containers, they are heavily restricted; you cannot simply open them in a text editor to read the code or import them into competitor PLC software like Rockwell Automation Studio 5000. This proprietary lock-in can create major obstacles for technicians who need to view logic but lack the specific version of the licensed software installed on their field laptop.
For documentation, maintenance manuals, and archiving, users frequently need to convert these diagrams into universally accessible formats. The most common workflow is converting .LLD to PDF to preserve the visual ladder structure for print, or to PNG/JPG for inclusion in digital reports. A secondary, less common use of this extension is for Lingea dictionary data files; if your file is not related to industrial automation, it is likely a lexical database requiring Lingea software.
