About LIGHTKEYFXT files

A .lightkeyfxt file contains a lighting fixture profile designed exclusively for Lightkey, a popular macOS-based DMX lighting control application developed by Monospace. These files store essential DMX channel mappings, defining how a specific stage light operates - including its pan, tilt, color wheels, gobo patterns, and dimmer curves. Under the hood, .lightkeyfxt files are essentially Apple plist (Property List) files holding structured XML or binary data.

The main disadvantage of the .lightkeyfxt format is severe vendor lock-in. It is proprietary and restricted to a single macOS application. If you decide to switch your lighting rig to a different software ecosystem - such as QLC+, GrandMA, or SoundSwitch - you cannot natively import these profiles. Standard online converters fail to process this format because lighting console manufacturers use highly specific, incompatible data models for their 3D visualizers and DMX engines.

To migrate your fixture data, the best target formats are standard XML, TXT, or JSON. While this will not give you a plug-and-play file for a new lighting console, it allows you to read the raw DMX channel assignments so you can manually rebuild the profile in your new software.

This file format is difficult to open or convert outside of the Apple ecosystem, and often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our platform can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects the supported underlying plist or embedded XML format, viewing or conversion to generic text formats will still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LIGHTKEYFXT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FXT, LIGHTKEYPROJ, PFF, R20, AXA and FSY files.
