The .LGM file is a data container used primarily by LongoMatch, a video analysis software for sports professionals. It stores events, timelines, tags, and playback coordinates in UTF-8 text format. A secondary, highly specialized use is storing proprietary machine instructions for Logica industrial knitting machines.
To open a sports analysis .LGM file, you need the desktop or mobile version of LongoMatch. For the knitting variant, you require dedicated CAD software from the machinery manufacturer. The main disadvantage of the .LGM format is its rigid dependency on specific software. The sports variant is a project file, meaning it does not contain the actual video data. It only holds text-based references and timestamps. If you share the .LGM file without the source video, the recipient cannot see the analysis. Furthermore, industrial Logica files are closed, proprietary binary formats completely inaccessible to standard operating systems.
