The .LGF file extension is shared by multiple, entirely different software programs. Most commonly, it acts as a LogoMotion Graphics File used for educational animation projects, or a LogWorks Data File created by Innovate Motorsports hardware and HP Tuners VCM Scanner. In automotive tuning, an .LGF file stores vehicle performance data logs such as RPM, air/fuel ratios, and timing. Other systems also use the .LGF extension for simple log files, including the 1C:Enterprise 8 platform (which generates standard UTF-8 text logs), Anritsu radio communication trace files, and LG mobile device logs.
Because the .LGF extension acts as a catch-all for proprietary application data, these files are notoriously difficult to share or read without the original software. For example, vehicle data logs require specialized tuning software to visualize graphs and charts. Users often need to convert these files to standard CSV or TXT formats to analyze the metrics in spreadsheet software or share them with mechanics. However, typical online converters fail because they cannot parse the proprietary binary structures of automotive tuning logs or the specialized project data of LogoMotion.
