The .lft extension is shared among several highly specialized, proprietary file formats. Its most common application is as a CAD/CAM cutting design file utilized by Elitron hardware and Lasercut 5.3. It can also function as an AutoCAD Layer Filter file for organizing complex engineering drawings, a label design format for Essae-Teraoka systems, a Linux console font, or a Microsoft Access Jet Database file.
These formats present severe disadvantages for users trying to share or archive data. .lft files are highly proprietary, completely lack native web browser support, and typically require expensive or hardware-bound software to open. If you receive an Elitron or Lasercut .lft file, you are essentially locked into their manufacturing ecosystem unless you can export the raw geometric data.
Converting these files is often mandatory to collaborate with external teams. For CAD/CAM designs and AutoCAD layer configurations, the ideal conversion targets are universal vector formats like DXF or DWG. Label designs should ideally be exported to PDF for consistent universal printing, while Linux console fonts are best converted to standard TTF or OTF files for cross-platform typography.
