Convert a file to KZ
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Archive" file type, you need software like KuaiZip or a similar tool.
About KZ files
A .KZ file is a proprietary compressed archive created by KuaiZip, a compression utility primarily popular in China. While the format boasts high compression ratios - often exceeding those of standard ZIP files - it introduces significant friction for users outside the KuaiZip ecosystem. The format is heavily proprietary, meaning standard archivers like 7-Zip or WinRAR typically cannot open or extract these files directly. This forces users to locate and install the official KuaiZip client, which presents a major security trade-off; the software is frequently flagged by antivirus vendors as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) or adware due to aggressive bundling of third-party toolbars and intrusive system behavior.
Because of these security and compatibility hurdles, keeping files in the .KZ format is impractical for long-term storage or sharing. The most pragmatic solution is to convert the .KZ archive into a universally supported format. For general distribution, convert to ZIP, which opens natively on Windows and macOS. If you need to maintain high compression ratios without the proprietary lock-in, 7Z is the superior target.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KZ file to ZAR, NAD, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB or ACE, you can use KuaiZip or similar software from the "Compressed File Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to KZ, try KuaiZip or another comparable tool in the "Compressed File Archive" category.
The KZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KZ converter.
