While the developers claim their algorithm provides compression ratios 5-30% higher than standard formats, the format introduces massive friction. It is an entirely closed and undocumented file type. This means mainstream extraction utilities like 7-Zip or WinRAR cannot natively extract or even read the contents of a .KZ archive. Furthermore, the original software is poorly localized for non-Chinese speakers and is frequently flagged by modern antivirus scanners as adware or a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP).
To safely access your data, you must convert the .KZ file into an open, globally supported format like ZIP, 7Z, or RAR. Doing so ensures you can open the archive on any operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) without installing obscure or suspicious software.
