About KPD files

A .KPD file primarily functions as an application data database file used by K-Link K-System Software, or as a serialized keypad layout data file within .NET Framework applications. In the K-System ecosystem, it stores hardware configurations, keypad mappings, and associated data, often utilizing an underlying SQLite database architecture.

The main disadvantage of the .KPD format is its proprietary, internal nature. These files are not meant for direct user interaction and cannot be opened natively in standard web browsers, text editors, or spreadsheet software. Furthermore, editing serialized NET data manually without the original software can instantly corrupt the file, breaking keypad functionalities or application settings.

To analyze or extract the stored data, you must convert the .KPD file. If the file is a disguised database, extracting the tables to CSV, JSON, or XML formats is highly recommended. This allows you to review the configurations safely in tools like Microsoft Excel or standard data analysis software, though complex relational structures may be flattened into raw text.

Because .KPD is an internal or serialized format, it is notoriously difficult to open or convert outside of its native environment. Standard online converters typically fail to process it because only the original software knows how to parse the binary or serialized data correctly. However, convert.guru provides a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Even if full conversion isn't supported, our system can inspect the file's hex signature to confirm if it contains standard SQLITE data or plain text XML, enabling partial data extraction.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KPD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted KPF, PDF, JPG, PNG, KDBX, KGDB and KDB files.

The KPD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KPD converter.
