About KNO files

The .KNO file extension is primarily used as a SuperMemo Knowledge Collection file developed by SuperMemo World. It serves as the master database index for a user's spaced repetition flashcards and learning courses, working strictly alongside a corresponding folder that contains the actual media and component data. A secondary, highly specialized use for .KNO files is the DigIN Serialized Break Model by EvREsearch, which stores serialized data models for structural analysis.

The main disadvantage of the .KNO format is its heavily proprietary and fragile nature. A single .KNO file is completely useless without its associated data folder, making backups and file transfers highly prone to corruption. Furthermore, it requires installing the specific Windows desktop version of SuperMemo to open, which has a notoriously steep learning curve and lacks native web browser support.

Users often attempt to convert .KNO data to standard formats like CSV, XML, or APKG (for Anki) to migrate their flashcards and preserve their learning algorithms. However, directly converting the file is impossible without the source software. Because this is a closed, proprietary database index, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the structured data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KNO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CYG, UTL and FUD files.

The KNO Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KNO converter.
