A .KFS file is primarily a game asset archive used by King's Bounty: The Legend to store internal game data like textures, models, and audio files. It is actually a standard ZIP file disguised with a custom extension to discourage casual users from modifying the game. In secondary cases, a .KFS file acts as a 3D character model or face texture for the MAX-FX engine used in Max Payne, or as animation data for the classic game Knights and Merchants.
The main disadvantage of the .KFS format is its proprietary nature. Standard operating systems and web browsers cannot open it, and most conventional converters fail because they do not recognize the extension.
