About KF2 files
The .KF2 file extension is primarily associated with 3D character models and animation sequences used in the classic shooter games Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, developed by Remedy Entertainment. These files function as proprietary containers for the MaxFX engine, storing geometric meshes, skeletal hierarchies, and character motion data. A secondary, less common use case involves animation data for Killing Floor 2.
Because .KF2 files are binary, engine-specific formats, they present significant friction for modern users: they cannot be opened natively by standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya, and they are often compressed or encrypted within the game's directory. Users typically encounter these files when attempting to mod the game, extract character assets for fan art, or archive game history. To make these assets usable, they must be converted into universal 3D interchange formats. For static geometry, converting to OBJ or STL is recommended; for retaining skeletal animation and rigging data, FBX or GLB are the superior targets.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KF2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KF2 file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use Max Payne or similar software from the "Game Character Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to KF2, try Max Payne or another comparable tool in the "Game Character Model" category.
The KF2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KF2 converter.
