About KEP files

The .KEP file extension is heavily fragmented and serves multiple distinct purposes. Primarily, it functions as a Komodo Edit Preferences file for ActiveState's Komodo Edit, storing customized IDE workspace settings. Alternatively, it is utilized by SAP SE for proprietary SAP Training Course Material. Sporadically, it acts as a Korg Keyboard Sample File or a saved game state for titles like King's Bounty II. The primary disadvantage of the .KEP format is this extreme lack of standardization. SAP .KEP files are locked in a Microsoft Compound binary container, requiring expensive corporate SAP environments to open natively, and are completely unsupported by web browsers. Meanwhile, Komodo Edit files are tied to an IDE that was officially retired in 2022, making long-term compatibility a dead end. Users typically need to convert SAP .KEP files to PDF or DOCX to read training materials offline. Former Komodo users attempt to migrate preferences to modern editors, seeking JSON or XML outputs. However, standard online converters universally fail to process .KEP files because SAP data is deeply obfuscated and game saves use proprietary GZIP structures. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it relies on closed, proprietary architectures where only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our analysis engine can inspect the file's internal content. If we detect a supported underlying format - such as readable XML in Komodo files or extractable Microsoft Compound streams in SAP documents - viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KEP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted HTML, PHP, APK, SPF, NPS and FFP files.
