About KDZ files
A .kdz file primarily functions as a firmware update package for mobile devices manufactured by LG Electronics. It is utilized by specific flashing utilities such as LGUP and LG Flash Tool to restore, update, or downgrade the Android operating system on LG smartphones. Secondarily, the .kdz extension is used by Kaspersky antivirus software for offline virus definition updates.
The .kdz format is a closed, proprietary container. Its primary disadvantage is that it acts as a black box; users cannot natively browse its contents in standard operating systems without using specialized, often outdated, Windows-only extraction tools. Furthermore, since LG exited the smartphone market in 2021, official support and modern flashing tools have become scarce, making these files cumbersome and risky to handle. The files also frequently exceed 2GB, creating storage and transfer bottlenecks.
Users typically need to convert or extract .kdz files into standard IMG (disk image) or DZ files to modify the Android system, recover specific partitions, or build custom ROMs. Standard online converters fail to process this format because it requires proprietary extraction algorithms rather than standard media conversion. If our analysis detects supported embedded formats (like raw images or text logs), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KDZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KDZ file to ZIP, XML, TOT, SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT or CMD, you can use LGUP or similar software from the "Device Firmware Update Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to KDZ, try LGUP or another comparable tool in the "Device Firmware Update Package" category.
The KDZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KDZ converter.
