The .kal file extension primarily represents a Woodworking Calculation file generated by OSD Spirit, a specialized CAD/CAM and ERP software suite used in the furniture and carpentry industries. These files (short for "Kalkulation") contain critical project data, including bill of materials (BOM), cost estimates, labor time calculations, and material specifications derived from the Corpus+ design module.
Because .kal files are proprietary to the OSD ecosystem, they present a significant barrier for clients, contractors, or stakeholders who do not own the expensive, licensed OSD software. You cannot simply double-click to open them in Microsoft Excel or a web browser. This proprietary lock-in often forces users to request manual exports from the original designer.
