A .jwl file is a proprietary label design project used to create CD and DVD jewel case inserts, disc labels, and booklets. The format often uses the Microsoft Compound File Binary Format (CFBF) to store text layers, vector graphics, imported raster images, and physical layout coordinates.
These files are primarily authored by SureThing CD/DVD Labeler and Roxio Label Creator. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, the files can only be reliably opened, edited, and printed by the original desktop software. They are not supported by web browsers or standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop. Moving these designs to modern digital archives is difficult without the original software, which is often obsolete or requires paid licenses.
