About JMF files

The .jmf extension serves two distinct, highly specialized purposes. Most commonly (85%), it is a Radar speed camera file generated by Gatso Autovision systems. These files store encrypted telemetry, photographic evidence, and calibration data used by law enforcement to process traffic violations. They are proprietary, tamper-evident data packets designed solely for Gatso internal software and legal adjudication systems, making them impossible to open with consumer software.

However, in the gaming and modding community, a .jmf file is a Jackhammer Project created by J.A.C.K. (formerly Jackhammer), a popular level editor for games like Half-Life and Quake. Unlike the Gatso format, these files contain level geometry, texture references, and entity data. Modders often need to convert these .jmf projects into compiled BSP maps for gameplay or export them to MAP, RMF (Valve Hammer Editor), or VMF (Source Engine) formats for broader compatibility with other editing tools.

Convert.Guru analyzes your JMF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BSP, MAP, ANOM, SVB and PCP files.

The JMF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JMF converter.
