About JAM files

A .JAM file is primarily a collaborative whiteboard project file created by Figma FigJam. Teams use it to store diagrams, sticky notes, flowcharts, and vector drawings. Less commonly, .JAM files serve as game resource archives for older titles like Grim Fandango or games built on the Sierra AGI Engine, as well as audio session recordings from Line 6 software. You can natively open and manage modern .JAM files using the web-based Figma application.

The primary disadvantage of a .JAM file is its strict vendor lock-in. A FigJam file is essentially useless offline and requires an active cloud account to view. It is a proprietary format that standard web browsers and image viewers cannot render. Because of this restriction, users frequently need to convert .JAM boards into standard, universally accessible formats.

The best conversion targets for a .JAM file are PDF for document sharing, or SVG, PNG, and JPG for static image embedding. Converting to a raster image like PNG will lose the interactive, editable vector layers, while exporting to PDF preserves text and scalability but drops the whiteboard's live collaborative features.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to convert via third-party tools because it relies entirely on Figma's proprietary web-rendering engine to assemble the board. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Because FigJam .JAM files are packaged as ZIP archives under the hood, our analysis might detect a supported embedded format. If so, viewing or partial conversion of the internal assets may still be possible.
