About IWZ files
The .IWZ file extension is most commonly associated with Industrial Automation Project Archives created by Bosch Rexroth IndraWorks. These files serve as compressed containers for automation engineering data, PLC programming, and HMI configurations. Secondary uses for the .IWZ format include legacy InstallShield Wizard project files developed by Revenera, as well as proprietary game data and UI files for titles like MapleStory, Granado Espada, and Industry Giant II.
The main disadvantage of the .IWZ format is its strict proprietary lock-in. If a client or colleague sends you an IndraWorks .IWZ file but you lack an active, expensive software license, the file appears unreadable. Similarly, old InstallShield projects often require legacy development environments to open properly, and game archives use undocumented compression methods that standard extractors cannot read.
Converting .IWZ files requires knowing their origin. Fortunately, IndraWorks .IWZ files use standard ZIP compression under the hood. The easiest conversion method is to simply rename the file extension to ZIP and extract the contents to access the raw XML, text, and configuration files inside. For InstallShield variants, you cannot convert them directly to an installer; you must either compile them using InstallShield to get an EXE or MSI, or extract the text-based setup scripts using a code editor.
Because this extension is shared across industrial software, game engines, and installer builders, standard online converters fail entirely when trying to process it. This is a closed, proprietary format with multiple conflicting signatures. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. Our analysis engine will inspect the internal structure of your .IWZ file to determine if it contains an underlying supported format like ZIP or raw text, giving you a realistic path forward.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IWZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IWZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IWZ converter.
