About ISX files

The .ISX extension primarily identifies an export package generated by IBM InfoSphere DataStage, a leading ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool. These files are typically compressed archives containing job definitions, routines, and table metadata structured in XML. The main challenge with .ISX files is their opacity; they are designed to be imported back into a DataStage repository, making it difficult for developers to quickly view code logic or version differences without launching the heavy, license-restricted DataStage client.

A secondary use case involves ISO 20022 payment instructions or financial messaging. In this context, the file is a pure XML document containing structured transaction data. While machine-readable, these files are notoriously hard for humans to interpret due to deep nesting and verbose tags.

The ISX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ISX converter.
