The .ISML format is a proprietary server-side template file used by Salesforce Commerce Cloud (formerly Demandware). Developers use it to build dynamic e-commerce storefronts. These files merge standard HTML structure with custom, proprietary tags (such as <isloop> or <isif>) to inject backend database information into web pages.
Because .ISML is specifically designed for the Salesforce ecosystem, it suffers from severe compatibility limitations outside of that environment. Standard web browsers cannot render raw .ISML files natively. If a user attempts to open an .ISML file directly in Chrome or Firefox, the browser will either download the file as an unrecognized attachment or display broken, unformatted code.
