About IP files
The .ip file extension is a classic example of a filename collision, representing several distinct formats that require different approaches. Most commonly, it is an Assessment Item Package, a compressed archive used by i-give Assessment Software and Inquisit to distribute psychological tests and questionnaires.
The primary friction point with these files is their specialized nature; they are essentially ZIP archives disguised with a different extension. Users often find they cannot open them without purchasing expensive testing software. However, because the underlying structure is standard compression, a practical workaround is often to rename the file extension to zip, allowing you to extract the internal text, XML, or media assets for conversion to PDF or DOCX.
Alternatively, an .ip file may be an Interactive Physics simulation created by Interactive Physics. These are proprietary engineering files that simulate mechanical systems. They cannot be opened by standard media players or browsers. Less frequently, the file might be a IconPackager theme used to customize Windows desktop icons.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IP file to HEX, INT, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use Inquisit or similar software from the "Assessment Item Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to IP, try Inquisit or another comparable tool in the "Assessment Item Package" category.
The IP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IP converter.
