A .IME file is a Windows Input Method Editor used by Microsoft Windows. It translates standard keystrokes into complex characters for languages like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Under the hood, these files are structured as compiled EXE or DLL executables.
Because it is a proprietary system binary, it is not a standard media or document file. Disadvantages include a high security risk - malware frequently disguises itself as an .IME file - and strict OS lock-in.
